Luca Thezan, was born on April 25, 1922 to the late General Albert Thezan and Grace Guillaume, daughter of Philomene Dupiton in La Chapelle, Haiti. She grew up in Port-auPrince, Haiti and was raised by her aunt Romane Gabriel. She was the first born of four children and had two brothers Gerard and Pierre and one sister, Germaine.
At the age of 15, she met the love of her life Luc Fequiere and they married several years later in 1941 in Plaissance, Cap Haitian. They soon started a family and had fifteen beautiful children Marie, Immacula (Manouche), Jean Jacques, Paul, Yves, Bernadette, Louis, Luc, Rose, Webert, Jocelyne and Carol , but sadly, lost three of their children Gerty, Nicole and Gladys in childbirth or shortly thereafter. The family lived in Haiti for several years, but eventually, due to the political unrest at that time, Luca and her husband decided to move to America in the hopes of creating a better life for their children.
In 1971, they settled in New York City and Luca stayed home to care for her children, while Luc worked as a transportation officer to support his family. While they had very limited resources, their home was always filled with joy and rooted in an abiding faith in God. Luca never shied away from telling others about how God was her strength during some very difficult times in their family. She also had a tremendous heart for others and regularly opened up her home to neighbors, her children's friends or even strangers who had a need.
In April 1977, Luca and Luc moved to Miami, Florida and lived there for the remainder of their life together. They were married until his passing in February 1986 and she remained a faithful widow for the rest of her life. While losing her husband so suddenly was devastating, Luca continued to serve as a source of strength for her children, grandchildren and everyone who crossed her path. She is often described by her family and those who knew her well as "the strongest woman I know". Despite losing her best friend Luc and her daughter Marie one year later, losing two grandchildren at the peak of their lives, surviving breast cancer, and then recently losing her eldest son Paul in February 2016- She never doubted God's faithfulness through it all.
Luca or Memere, her pet name for those close to her, loved to socialize, dance, attend church services and most importantly spend time with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite pastime was praying and feeding the homeless. By the grace of God, she lived to see four generations of her offspring comprised of well over 70 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She always had a way of making them feel like they were each uniquely special to her. She lived 94 years on this earth and left behind many who loved her and were inspired by her life and strength. She will never be forgotten and her legacy of love, prayer and caring for others will continue to live on through her family and all who knew her.
She is predeceased by her husband Luc Fequiere, brother(s) Gerard Thezan and Pierre Thezan, daughter Marie Dor, son Paul Fequiere (Polo), granddaughter Malou Grant, grandson Jude Dor and aunt Amen Guillaume Hyacinth.

The family will receive friends at Fred Hunter Funeral Home 6301 Taft Street Hollywood, Florida 33024 on Friday, December 16, 2016 from 5:00pm - 9:00pm
with a prayer service at 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 12:00 noon St. Bartholomew Catholic Church 8005 Miramar Parkway Miramar, Florida 33025 with interment to follow at Hollywood Memorial Gardens East 6301 Taft Street Hollywood, Florida 33024.
