In loving memory of

Audrey Lindgren Peterson
April 17, 1923 - January 10, 2017

Madison - Audrey L. Peterson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at UW Hospital in Madison surrounded by her loving family. At 93 years of age she will be remembered as an intelligent, independent woman that loved being with family and friends and enjoyed golfing, attending Badger Football games and being on the board of the Women's Western Golf Association.

Audrey was born in Rockford, Illinois on April 17, 1923. She graduated from Rockford College in 1944 with a major in physiology and minor in physics and math. After college, Audrey became a Teaching Assistant in Physiology at Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut. She taught there for 2 years and while in New London became reacquainted with a young man from her home town-Donald Peterson, a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the US Navy. They fell in love and were married on August 31, 1946.

Both Audrey and her husband decided to enroll together at the University of Iowa for their Master's Degrees. Audrey received her MS in Physiology and then they moved to Chicago where she became a Research Assistant at Northwestern Medical School Pathology Department while her husband received his MD at Northwestern Medical School.

They eventually moved to Madison, Wisconsin where Audrey became a Research Assistant in the Cardiovascular Department at the UW Medical School. After working for a few years, they started their family. During this time Audrey began to take on many volunteer positions for causes that were important to her. She was President of the Wisconsin State Medical Auxiliary and was proud to help with programs that promoted usage of infant car seats. She eventually lobbied for a law to mandate infant car seats.

Audrey was also was proud to serve on the boards for the two sports that she loved-curling and golf. Audrey served as President for the Women's National Curling Club and President of the Women's Western Golf Association (WWGA). The WWGA promotes golf for young amateur women by holding national amateur tournaments. They also have a foundation that provides academic scholarships to high school graduates. She served on the Board for the WWGA for 35 years and was awarded the WWGA "Woman of Distinction Award" in 2014.

Audrey's most loved activity was golf. She is one of the longest standing members of Blackhawk Country Club where she holds three Club Championships. She truly enjoyed the friendships and competition that golf offered her throughout her life.

Audrey will be greatly missed by her children Andrea Peterson Straus and Kristina (Michael) Favia; her grandchildren Tommy, Hayley, Lauren and Luke; and by many nieces and nephews that would make special trips to come and see "Aunt Audrey." She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, with whom she had 54 years of a loving marriage and traveled the world together.

A memorial service will be held on January 22, 2017 at 1:30 at Midvale Community Church, 4329 Tokay Blvd, Madison. A "Celebration of Life" Reception will follow at Blackhawk Country Club.

"Audrey, you will be so missed by your friends from the WWGA. Your enthusiasm, 'infectious chuckle', dedicated leadership and loyalty will be remembered for years to come. 37 years of fond memories with you as President, Bylaws, Parliamentarian, Chairman of Tournaments and many other committees. You guided us through some uneasy times with your sage advice. We will miss you dearly...Bev Metzger, WWGA Director 1983."
