Gary R. Mommaerts
July 28, 1935 - January 26, 2017

Gary R. Mommaerts, 81, Green Bay, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Angels on Arcadian. He was born on July 28, 1935 in Green Bay to the late Howard and Ethel (Goddard) Mommaerts. On August 20, 1955, he married Alice Jessogne at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, and they were blessed with 50 years of marriage together.
Gary worked for the Brown County Highway Department. After 40 years of service he retired in 1995. He enjoyed spending time at his cottage by Shay Lake in Oconto Co., fishing, hunting, making maple syrup and riding his ATV. He was well known for making his famous booyah. Gary loved spending time with his grandchildren, having "cherry time" (kiddie cocktails). He was a long time member of the Teamsters Union, Local 75, and served as a trustee. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, Herman's Club and a charter member of the Dusty Trails ATV club.
Gary is survived by two daughters, Karen (Michael) DeGroot and Tina (Daniel) Crevier; five sons, Howard (Linda), Brian (Sue), Mark (special friend, Tess), Chris (John Falkowski) and Bruce (Wendy) Mommaerts; 13 grandchildren, Jessica, Alicia (Ryan), Gary (Ashley), Courtney (Steve), Katie (Tyler), Nicholas, Casey, Samantha, Ethan, Angela (Adam), Amanda (Nicolas), Stephanie (Tim) and Renee (fiancé, Jacob); ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Gail Schuelke, Pat DeBauche and Nancy Cooper; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his wife, Alice; daughter in-law, Jeanie Mommaerts, brothers-in-law, Ronald DeBauche, Hans Schuelke and Paul Cooper.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue. A prayer service will take place at 6:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Monday, January 30, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Parish, 1224 12th Avenue, Green Bay, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am with Rev. Michael Theil officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Gary's name.
The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Angels on Arcadian, where he lived for the past five years, and the staff of Southern Care Hospice, for their wonderful care and support.
