"Bob and I are just so sorry. So sad for the family! (including his furry family, Haley & Kasper. He loved them! And they love him. i can only imagine how they are missing their 'dad', friend and companion! I loved Phil's love and Big Heart for his dogs, all dogs! Phil was one of a kind!
Bob and i miss him already and will miss him even more as nice weather comes and we no longer have our driveway and fence visits and alley chats, as we were all coming/going out on the day's errands.
We are here for you all, if there is anything, anything at all, you need, or we can do. And especially, Linda who, like Phil, has been a dear neighbor - we call friend.
Bob and I plan to come to today's Gathering of Family and Friends & Celebration of Life. We hope to be able to attend Thursday service as well. We will say, see you later, Phil, as that was our normal 'getting on' with whatever needed everyone's' attention: dogs, yard work, whatever project Phil had going.?
We RARELY said 'Goodbye'. Usually a waive ??'? and hello or 'see ya.'???--

Phillip E. Compton
November 13, 1943 - February 7, 2017
Phillip Eugene Compton, 73, son of Leonard and Letha Compton, passed away February 7, 2017. Phil was surrounded by his family at IU Health Methodist Hospital.
Phil grew up in Carmel and graduated from Carmel High School in 1961. During his last two years of high school, he served as a volunteer fireman on the Carmel Fire department. After graduation, he attended Indiana University, then deciding to enlist in the U.S. Army. He spent most of his 4 year tour in Germany. After the Army, he learned the heating and cooling trade and soon started his own business, Compton Mechanical Services. While Phil never fully retired from the business, his two sons, Derrick and Darren, have operated the business as Phil wound down his involvement.
Phil was active in the Heating and Cooling Association of Indiana for many years. There he met his wife Linda, who served as the association's Executive Director.
After a 2 year waiting list period, Phil received a double lung transplant in 1998. He astounded all with his recovery and spoke repeatedly to potential transplant recipients and their families, offering guidance and encouragement.
Several interests occupied Phil's free time: His children and grandchildren and his love of dogs. Others included; woodworking, Tropical fish, r/c airplanes, RVing, growing orchids, and photography.
Phil is survived by his wife Linda; son Derrick Compton, his wife Joelle and grandchildren, Teagan, Tate, and Tessa; son Darren and grandson, Alex, daughter Courtney Young and husband Michael, daughter Lindsey Ratner and granddaughter Zooey, and his brother David Compton and his wife Terry.
On Wednesday, February 15, 2017 a "Gathering of Family and Friends" will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM to be followed at 7:00 PM with a "Celebration of Life" at Leppert Mortuary, 900 North Rangeline Road, Carmel. Burial with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 16 at Hamilton Memorial Park, 4180 Westfield Rd, Westfield, IN.
Memorial gifts can be made to the Indiana Donor Network Foundation in Phil's name.
