In loving memory of

Donald A. Cobb
April 27, 1937 - February 15, 2017

Donald A. Cobb,
79, of Carmel departed this life Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Don was born April 27, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, the only son to the late Leonard J. and Margaret S. (Bone) Cobb. After graduating from Chatham High School in Chatham, NJ, Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, and following an honorable discharge, he went on to earn his degree in business from Indiana University. Don pursued a forty-year career as a financial advisor, working for Merrill Lynch for twenty-five years and then PaineWebber / UBS until his retirement. He was most proud of his work helping clients establish charitable remainder trusts which benefited universities, charities and organizations throughout the United States. He began his career in Columbus, Ohio where he met Betty and they began their family. Don always put family first, and when the children were young, the family relocated to Indiana to be closer to Don's parents. Don was a member of Carmel United Methodist Church, Centennial Bible Church and Mount Pleasant Christian Church. In his free time, Don enjoyed fishing, golf, and taking his family on annual road trips. When he didn't have a club in his hand, he could be found at events supporting his children and grandchildren, watching IU sports, the Colts or following Indy 500 news.
In retirement, Don found a second career as a Christian author, contributing articles to several journals and also publishing two books, God Is Everywhere Volumes I & II. Don remained a supporter of Indiana University throughout his life, volunteering as a mentor to undergraduate business students, and establishing an undergraduate scholarship recognizing the role the University had in his career. Other service efforts during his lifetime included volunteering as a Big Brother, coaching youth sports, and serving as a Stephen Minister in his church.
Don is survived by his family, Betty Cobb; children, Susan Knauer, Steve (Kenya) Cobb and Scott (Alison) Cobb; eight beloved grandchildren Michael, Jacob, Drew, Lauren, Megan, Kennedy, Kirsten and Brady; and a host of dear friends.
Visitation for Don will be from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 19th at Leppert Nora Chapel. If desired, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.

"Such a great guy, gone too soon. I know you planned to have your third book published posthumously and I can't wait to buy it! I have re-read the first two many times, always remembering you fondly. It was such a pleasure to know you and be blessed by your Godliness. Judy Coleman"

"We had the privilege of getting to know Don when we were together in a Home Group through our church, Mount Pleasant Christian Church. He listened more than he spoke during our group discussions, but when he did speak....it was always from the heart and very thoughtful and insightful. We all learned so much from our dear friend. He will be missed. See you in Heaven Don!"

Pam Ball Hernandez wrote on Feb 18, 2017:

"I will always remember my Uncle Don as a very loving father and husband with an enthusiastic drive to work hard in order to ensure that his family always had the best that he could offer. A man with a tender heart, I recall when I telephoned him to let him know that I had just earned my MBA from San Diego State University. He expressed some of the kindest and encouraging words I'd ever heard; and he had written a beautiful character reference letter for me so that I could utilize in my working world. Most of all, I recall when my father passed away 10 years ago and how my Uncle Don constantly made himself available to comfort, to listen, to give advise to our hurting family; and especially how he made himself readily available to help my mother since I lived out of state. My Uncle Don even wrote a story entitled "Yellow Rose" in one of his published books in honor of my dad. Uncle Don, you will be sorely missed by many. And as a Christian, we know you are now in the loving arms of Our Lord and Savior. We shall meet again one day. And to my Aunt Betty and my cousins, please accept my sincerest condolences. Sincerely, Pam "
