George Albert Oehler
February 22, 1931 - September 3, 2016

George Oehler was born Feb 22, 1931 in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Curt Willy Oehler of Altenburg, Germany and Viola Louise Farnham of Jackson, Mississippi. George had 1 brother (Curt Jr.) and 1 sister (Alfrieda). Both his brother and sister preceded him in death; as did his wife, Ellen Jane Pottle. He is survived by his 4 children Mark, Carol, Holly, and Rebecca, and by 3 grandchildren, Kendra, Spencer, and Lavender.

In his early childhood during the Depression, his family moved frequently. Eventually his parents moved up to the Seattle area. Now a young adult, George liked it there and decided to stay. In 1950, he bought a piece of property in Bothell from Pope & Talbot. He built a small cabin on it.

He served in the Marine Corp at Camp Pendleton, CA for 2 years during the Korean War. After the Marine Corp, and a brief stint with the Post Office, George started working as a baker and then a janitor. He was hired by the Food and Drug Administration as a Lab Technician in January of 1966.

George worked for the Food and Drug Administration for about 38 years before retiring in 2003. He worked at the Lab in the downtown Seattle office and also when it moved to the Bothell area.

He met his wife, Ellen Jane Pottle, at an ice skating class. They married on April 18th, 1958. Originally residing in Seattle, they moved to George's property in Alderwood Manor shortly after marrying and began to build a home and a family. George and Ellen separated in 1979 after 21 years of marriage, with the legal separation being finalized in 1982. Neither one sought to remarry.

George enjoyed outdoor hobbies like hiking, fishing, and gold panning. In his retired years, George had chance to relax and enjoyed reading, sports, movies, things he hadn't had much time for earlier in his life.

George loved the land that he had bought so many years ago. He lived there almost all his adult life and died there in September 2016 at the age of 85. Some of his ashes have been spread on that property.

His faith was very important to him, but it was also very personal. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior through a Billy Graham crusade. Several times in his life, he read through the whole bible, and bought commentaries and other works to aid his deeper understanding of the Bible.
