"I am so sorry I won't be able to personally tell the family how important Dr. Howard was in my life, career. I apologize. Please know that I'll always remember him dialing me up early in the morning before I even got off the air - especially during World Dairy Expo, and always carting me around on the grounds so I'd meet the coolest people he called friends. He took me under his wing from the day I hit the Madison radio airwaves, and I will not forget. Gods Peace. Pam Jahnke Welch "The Farm Babe" farm broadcaster"

Ger wrote on Mar 2, 2017:

"Terry Howard was a wonderful colleague and friend. He was a leader in the application of computers to improving the efficiency of Dairy farmers. I was a new Ag. Econ. Assistant Professor with an office near Harlan Hughes who was a close colleague of Terry's. They were pioneers in helping farmers balance the combination of feeds they fed their cows considering nutrition and cost. I worked in grain marketing and farm management and did not have a lot of direct interaction with Terry. However, across many roles as fellow Wisconsin Cooperative Extension state specialists we were on several committees together. Terry readily contributed his ideas and perspectives on the issues we encountered in our responsibilities in faculty shared governance. He was a big man in many ways with a warm smile, a strong handshake and a supportive hand on your shoulder. On Sunday's I had the pleasure of shaking his hand as he worked as an usher at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. He was a steady part of the Mt. Olive Community of believers and I was privileged to see him faithfully serving his fellow members. I have missed his steady support at Mt. Olive as his health prevented him from being there in person. I thank the Lord that Terry Howard was a part of my life and that I know that God will give Karen and his family strength as the grieve his passing and celebrate his life. Gerry Campbell"

"Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Karen and family. Terry was truly one of the really great old-time Extension Specialists. He was a model for many agents in the field and a great inspiration. I considered Terry more of a friend than a colleague. He always was able to lend a caring ear to many a beginning county agent. Jim and Karen Faust "

"My sincere condolences to Karen and the rest of Terry's family. Terry was a one-of-a-kind guy, not easily forgotten by anybody who knew him. He was a mentor to me both as an extension specialist and as a part of the WDE family every fall. I learned much from Terry, including a few choice "words of wisdom" that I use yet to this day. Terry worked hard, and he also knew how to play hard. We had lots of fun and shared many laughs. He will be greatly missed. "

Lori Kallweit wrote on Mar 1, 2017:

"Dear Karen, Steve, Matt and Rachel. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Uncle Terry. I and Mom will not be able to make it to the funeral but know that we are praying for you. The picture is so good of Terry. That smile is very close to the one that Steve and I saw when we were stuck to our waists in the snowdrift. We were lucky that Matt was little and light enough to walk on the drifts to go back to the house to get help. Terry was our rescue hero but first he did the army crawl to take pictures of us stuck. Never did see the pictures but have that great memory in my head. May you find comfort in the memories of Terry and may they carry you through the tough days ahead. Love you all lots and think of you often. Carroll, Lori, Daniel, Kayleen and Mark Kallweit and Shirley Boning. "
