A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 20, 2017 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. The family will greet from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday. Joyce-Alesch Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Janice Elaine Gass was born October 31, 1936 in Windom, MN, the daughter of Lawrence and Clara (Roesner) Johnson. Jan went to school in Estherville and was a graduate of Estherville High School.
Janice was married to Norris Rierson, and to this union, four children were born.
Janice and Norris owned and operated the Town and Country on the west edge of Emmetsburg. She tended bar and waitressed most of her working life.
In June of 1978, Janice was united in marriage to Ed Gass.
On March 16, 2017, Jan passed away at the Ruthven Care Center.
Janice enjoyed riding motorcycles and working in Sturgis, SD. She loved cooking, playing cards and hosting family get-togethers. She enjoyed her Dachshund pups, and taking care of her yard. She loved traveling, and she and Ed took many motorcycle vacations throughout the United States.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Curt Rierson of Graettinger and Lauri Studer and her husband, Gene of Graettinger; sister, Carol Voss and her husband Roger of Fairmont, MN; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ed Gass in 2008; and two sons: Dennis and Kenneth.
