Florence Ellen Katherine Frahm Wallisa "Kathy"
October 1, 1920 - March 18, 2017
Florence Frahm Wallisa, "Kathy", of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed peacefully at home on March 18, 2017. She was 96 years old.
Kathy was born on a small farm in Iowa in 1920. Unlike her peers, Kathy did not conform to tradition. She chose to leave her home, further her education and had aspirations of seeing the world. In 1943 she graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing and attained a BSN from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. Her greatest professional joy came from training nurses. She did this at Lutheran Hospital, Mt Sinai Hospital, NY and at Wesley Memorial Hospital in Chicago until 1951.
In 1949 she married Victor Wallisa. They were married for 67 years and had 4 children, 9 grand-children and 2 great-grandchildren. During her marriage she traveled throughout the US and abroad. She and her husband were active members of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and The Woodstock Club, Indianapolis.
Throughout her life she gave of herself. She was the first to volunteer for Scout Leader or for Homeroom Helper. As an "empty nester", she was a docent at the Indiana State Museum and Indianapolis Art Museum. She loved to volunteer her "arts and craft" talent and often made centerpieces and decorations for church functions at St. Luke's United Methodist Church
The last few years, Kathy remarked she had done everything she wanted to do and felt blessed by the full life she lived! Kathy was strong-willed, determined, and loving. She will be remembered by her friends and family for her caring, giving and nurturing ways.
She is survived by her loving husband, Victor Wallisa, and their 4 children and families: Carol and Ken Levy and grandchildren Michael and Alison Levy; Susan Wallisa and granddaughter Victoria Venskus; John Wallisa and grandchildren Matthew Wallisa, Jenny and Ross Dotzlaf, Kelly Wallisa (deceased), Andrew Wallisa; Janet and Roy Sartorius and grandchildren Jason and Kaitlin Sartorius and great-grandchildren Gwen and Hank Dotzlaf.
Services will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church located at 100 W. 86th St., Indianapolis on Tuesday, March 21 2:00 pm.
