"Uncle Fred tribute Uncle Fred taught me many many things over the years including "check the oil before going on a car trip" and how to do it. In 1963 while visiting him in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada he took my mother and I to lunch aboard a US Navy ship. After lunch we got a tour of the ship including the main machinery space where I saw my first steam turbine. I later became a engineer aboard US Navy ship powered by steam turbines. I will always remember in 1968 Uncle Fred took Desi and I to see James Brown at the Howard Theater in Washington D.C. This was my first R&B concert. Later when I was with a big band and came to Seattle Uncle Fred and Pam came to see us. I was able to go on many trips with uncle Fred. When I retired the first trip I took was to drive out to see Uncle Fred and Pam. I was happy to go with them to the Washington State Fair. Anthony Miller Washington D.C. "
