In loving memory of

Glorita Doctor McIntyre
March 10, 1939 - March 18, 2017

Glorita (Andy) Doctor McIntyre, 78, of Mt. Lake Terrace, Washington passed away on March 18, 2017. Born in the Philippines, she immigrated to Kauai, Hawaii in 1946 at the age of 7 with her mother and three younger siblings to join her father who worked for the McBryde Sugar Company at that time.

She quickly learned English and excelled in school, often specially mentored by her teachers. At Kauai High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from Indiana State Teachers College in 1961. Because of her example, all of her siblings graduated from college.

After returning to Hawaii, Glorita worked as a social worker on Kauai and Oahu for the State of Hawaii Department of Social Services.

Glorita was a shining star in the State of Washington, where her commitment to people with disabilities was evident. She worked for the Washington State Department of Employment Security for over 30 years. She was a member of the International Association of Workforce Professionals and enjoyed a career helping people with disabilities find work and also assisting employers in structuring accommodations so that they would be able to hire people with disabilities. She also provided job outreach and community education. She was outstationed for many years at the Washington Vocational Services, a community nonprofit, and served on the Board of Directors over 20 years. One of the Board's creative social enterprises was obtaining a franchise for Auntie Anne's Hand Rolled Soft Pretzels in two locations to provide training and employment for clients and to raise funds for the nonprofit agency. After her retirement from Washington State, Glorita continued her advocacy for people with disabilities. She was appointed by Governor Locke to the Washington State Committee on Disability Issues and Employment for 8 years. She also was elected Chapter Secretary of the Retired Public Employees Council of Washington, Lynnwood Chapter, in 2013.

Glorita was preceded in death by her husband of over 30 years, DeWitt McIntyre; her long-time companion, William Freeze; her parents, Bienvenido and Sofia Doctor of Hawaii; and her brother, Julio Doctor of California. She is survived by her children: Cori Lei McIntyre Smith (Michael), Dona Rae McIntyre Cocking (Steven); and Eric McIntyre (Tamara); Grandchildren: Jason Cocking (Emily Kahan), Amanda Ballou (Jesse), Kane McIntyre, Gage McIntyre, Rafe McIntyre, and Anya McIntyre; Great-grandchildren: Rylee Coons, Sydnee Coons, and Kaizer Cocking, all of Washington. She is also survived by her sisters, Sofia Hilario Doctor, Clarita Doctor Kaapuni (Richard), and Norma Doctor Sparks (Stephen) of Hawaii; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind.

A Celebration of her Life will be held on April 22, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Washelli Evergreen, 11111 Aurora Avenue North, Seattle, Washington. Contributions in Glorita's name may be made to the Puget Sound Kidney Center at www.pskc.net.

"A truly beautiful lady--who radiated warmth and kindness to all she met. Though small & petite, she was a little powerhouse; and coupled with her "can do" attitude, she inspired many. I'm still amazed at the back yard addition she built! Glo had a servant heart, reaching out to those who previously had doors closed on them. It was a honor to know her, and call her my neighbor and friend. I have no doubt her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched. May you Rest In Peace, sweet friend. "

"Words cannot express how saddened I am to learn of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. I met Glorita McIntyre many years ago at an Awards program in Seattle. Registration was bogged down and she offered her assistance. I was so relieved that she and Sylvia Wyman stepped in to help. From that moment, we became friends. Glo volunteered for the awards program for over 20 years. After many years of volunteering, she applied for membership and was appointed to the Governor's Committee on Disability Issues and Employment. Glo and Bill were actively involved in our Youth Leadership Forum, a summer camp for junior and senior high school students held at the Evergreen State College in Olympia. Glo was a consummate volunteer always at the ready to help, no job was too small! She was always giving of herself and not expecting anything in return. She was a great fund raiser, flower arranger and worked well with everyone. Glo had a delightful sense of humor and we shared a great deal of laughter over the years together. She had a wonderful way of always seeing the lighter side of life. It was an honor and privilege to know her. Glo deeply touched my life and she will always be in my heart. Melinda Johnson Governor's Committee on Disability Issues and Employment "

"Glow has been a shining star in her community for several decades. Her commitment to people with disabilities was evident in all the volunteer positions in non profit agency. She always had a smile for everyone she met. Heart of an angel. Rest in Peace. P.S. Cori let me know if there will be a celebration of her life. Thanks. "

"On behalf of Washington Vocational Services (WVS), I'd like to extend our deepest sympathies to Glorita's (Glo) family. Glo has been a driving force behind our agency and has left an indelible mark on all of us. Glo recently achieved her 20-year milestone as a Board Member with WVS, serving over the years in a variety of chair positions on the Board. She took the commitment seriously, rarely ever missing meetings, always actively engaged and with her eyes consistently centered on our mission. Glo was a strong advocate for individuals with disabilities. For many years, she was a member of the Governors Committee for Disability and Employment Issues and just this past October, she served as a judge for the Governors Employer Awards. Glo's support to the agency knew no limits and whether she was helping us procure donations for fundraisers or calling us up when she noticed a help wanted sign on a business window, she always thought of our customers and how she could help. It is a huge understatement to say that we will miss her but we will continue to provide the work that she believed so strongly in, while remembering the many contributions she made to our agency and her community. Please know that all of us at WVS are thinking of you during this difficult time. Sincerely, Janet Bruckshen Executive Director Washington Vocational Services "
