In loving memory of

Dawn S. Naig
August 7, 1928 - March 27, 2017

Celebration of Life Service will take place at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Family and friends are invited to the church hall immediately following the service for refreshments and fellowship.

Dawn Sewell Naig, daughter of Augusta Maine (Sewell) Parish Church and John Charles Parish was born August 7, 1928 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. She was a graduate of Emmetsburg High School.

On August 30, 1953, Dawn was united in marriage to Obed Naig at the First Congregational Church in Emmetsburg. The couple made their home on the family farm (now a century farm) near Depew, IA.

Dawn was involved in many church and community organizations. She volunteered her time and talents as a caregiver to many. She loved music, cooking, baking, sewing and handwork. She made many dolls, painting them and sewing all of their clothes. She loved to visit and host friends at her home, but more than anything, she treasured her entire family - husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, and she was a founding member of the Palo Alto County Hospital Auxiliary and the Palo Alto County Historical Society. She spent much of her adult life volunteering for organizations which promoted Emmetsburg and Palo Alto County.

On Monday, March 27, 2017, Dawn passed away at the Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Obed of Emmetsburg; two daughters: Marit and her husband, Dr. Frank Veltri of Emmetsburg and Angela Hetrick of Cylinder; son, Bert Naig and his wife, Julie of Cylinder; sister, Autumn "Bing" and her husband, Virgil Plume; sister-in-law, Virginia and her husband, Harlan Holstead; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives and friends.

Dawn was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: John Parish and his wife, Alberta and Eldon Parish; sister, Virginia Parish; and her son-in-law, Butch Hetrick; brother-in-law, Rev. Harold Naig and his wife, Jeanette.
