Chris Winchel, 63, of Malvern, IA, passed away on March 31, 2017 at his home in Malvern.

VISITATION - Sunday, April 2, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern.

FUNERAL SERVICE - Monday, April 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern with burial in the Malvern Cemetery.

Memorials are directed to the family.


Chris Leroy Winchel, the youngest of six children of Margie Iliene (Perry) and John Marion Winchel, was born on September 27, 1953 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He grew up in Malvern, Iowa and graduated from the Malvern High School with the "Class of 1972". Chris worked for Rob Hays at Hays Farms for 27 years and then had been helping Jeff Sell with his farming.

Chris and Phyllis Jean Earley were married on April 5, 1981 in Malvern, Iowa. They lived south of Malvern for many years until moving to live in town.

Chris loved being outdoors and enjoyed farming, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with his family, who were his pride and joy. His faithful wiener dog "Sammy" was never far from his side. Chris was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, son, brother, uncle, and a good friend to all who knew him.

Chris peacefully passed away from cancer, surrounded by his family and close friends, with his dog "Sammy" at his side, on March 31, 2017 at his home in Malvern. He attained the age of 63 years, 7 months, and 4 days. Chris was preceded in death by his mom Margie; brothers, Gary Duaine Winchel and Johnnie Ray Winchel; stepdaughter Dina Inman; and nephew Derek Winchel.

Chris is survived by his loving wife of almost 36 years Phyllis Winchel of Malvern; daughter Kari Stewart of Malvern; son Casey Winchel and wife Ann of Omaha, NE; three grandkids, Dakota, Colton, and Jaelyn; great granddaughter Layla; stepchildren, Joe Inman, Gina Kuhl and fiancé Chad McAlpin; step grandkids, Dina, Jessica, Lacey, and Jacob; father John M. Winchel of Malvern; sisters, Marion Stevens and husband Jerry of Boone, IA, and Judy Ritter and husband Donald of Blandon, PA; brother William Winchel and wife Barb of Council Bluffs, IA; nieces, nephews, and cousins; extended relatives; and many friends.
