In the summer of 1988, he was nominated to the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York by Senator Tom Harkin. During his senior, year at the academy, he served aboard a carrier transporting jet fuel at the beginning of the war in Iraq. Along with several life-long friends, he was a 1992 graduate of King's Point.

He later acquired his Captain's license and took great pride in his work. Early in his career he worked in Elgin, IL and later, Evansville, IN where he met and married Deena Montgomery. He was most recently employed by the Delaware River and Bay Authority.

Capt. Mick is survived by a son, Cayden and two daughters: Molly and Ariana of Henderson KY; others left to cherish his memory are his parents: Charlie and Lorrie McNally of Emmetsburg; his brother, Chuck and his wife, Chelsea of Waverly; his niece, Alexis and nephews: Patrick, Joseph and Tyler; and a large clan of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mike cherished his time and memories with his children. He loved the word "DAD". His artistic talents were put to good use when his design was chosen for their class ring at the Merchant Marine Academy.

In keeping with Mike's loving and generous spirit, it was his decision to donate life so that others may live.
