MUSCATINE, Iowa - Royce R. Hyink, 87, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at his home.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Steve Cauley will officiate. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Combined Squads of the American Legion Post No 27 and the V.F.W. Post No 1565. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church. Online condolences: www.wittichfuneralhome.com.


Royce was born on February 12, 1930, in Muscatine, the son of Ralph and Martha Schmoldt Hyink. He was a graduate of Muscatine High School, class of 1949. He married Betty M. Snyder on August 24, 1953, in Myrtle Beach, North Carolina. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2016.

He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Muscatine County Sheriff Patrol and attended Zion Lutheran Church. He and Betty owned and operated Hyink's Towing and Service Station since 1964, and he loved being at the station. He loved and treasured his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his two sons, Steven Hyink and wife, Renee, and Mike Hyink and wife, Tammy, both of Muscatine; six grandchildren, Remy Duncan and husband Kevin, Todd Hyink and wife Katie, Tasha Woods and husband Jim, Sara Kokos and husband Levi, Tai Downs and husband Randy, and Kelsie Martin and husband Andrew; two step-grandchildren, Neil Salek and wife, Phylicia, and Kaleena Barton and husband, Eric; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Greenwald of Muscatine; and special friend, Bob Chambliss.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; and one brother, Neil Hyink on March 28, 2017.
