Beverly Carr, 66, of Carson, IA, passed away on April 10, 2017 at the Oakland Manor in Oakland, IA.

MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Carson with inurnment in the Carson Cemetery.

VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 12:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are directed to the family.


Beverly L. Carr was born on May 3, 1950 at Fort Dodge, Iowa to Burdette and Darlene (Bell) Nodland. She graduated from North High in Des Moines in 1968, and worked for a short time in the State Auditor's office, and then as a purchasing agent at the Lutheran Hospital. She was a foster parent and day care provider in Ankeny for many years and served as the first president of the Ankeny Daycare Providers' Association. Bev worked as a Consumer Choice Options broker for the last few years assisting many families with members having special needs.

Bev married Michael W. Carr on August 15, 1993 in Las Vegas. She and Mike did foster care for several years, and in 1998, they adopted three sisters.

Bev and Mike coached Buddy Baseball for many years. Foster care parent and Consumer Choice Options broker were things that made her 'light up'. She lived to help others. Bev had a strong faith, and she enjoyed reading her many Bibles. She also enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, and going out to eat with her friends.

Bev was a member of Auxiliary #23 of the Auxiliary of the Union Veterans of the Civil War of Atlantic, and was a Past Chief of Winterset Temple #105, and the Pythias Sisters of Winterset, Iowa.

Bev was preceded in death by her mother and her uncles, Archie Nodland and Merill Bell. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Michael of Carson, daughters, Jennifer Lewis of Council Bluffs and children, Jessica Lewis of Omaha, Alex Lewis of Red Oak, and Amanda and Jordan Lewis; Melissa Carr and her children, Isaiah and Chloe of Ft. Dodge, Kristina Carr of Harlan, and Sara Carr of Spencer. She is also survived by her father, Burdette "Bud" Nodland of Des Moines, brothers, Michael Nodland (Marsha) of Milo, IA and Rick (Tammy) Nodland of Dundas, MN; sisters, Anne (Roger) Gloor of Kansas City, MO, and Carol (Alan Clason) of Paris, France; mother-in-law Bernice Carr of Council Bluffs; brothers-in-law, Monty (Miriam) Carr of Kellogg, Meredith Carr of Grinnell, and Myron (Kathy) Carr of Carson; sisters-in-law, Marta Gordon Lustgraaf of Council Bluffs, Marcia Whitman of Wenatchee, WA, and Michelle Hohnsbruch of Grinnell; numerous nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends.
