Harold Lampe
December 17, 1920 - April 13, 2017

A funeral Mass for Harold Lampe will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church, Bancroft. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Bancroft and will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the Church on Wednesday.

Harold James Lampe, son of Ben and Ella (Ahrendsen) Lampe passed away peacefully on April 13, 2017, at the Hawkeye Care Center, Bancroft, at the age of 96.

Harold was born on December 17, 1920, in Manning. The family moved to Bancroft in 1925. Harold graduated from St. John's Catholic High School. He played basketball and baseball and had a lifelong love for sports. His favorite teams were the Minnesota Twins and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

On August 26, 1941, he married Dorothy Eleanor Alt at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft. He worked at Welp's Hatchery after graduation and then worked at Welp's Feed mill until he took over his dad's farm in 1957. Harold served his country in the United States Army serving as a Military Police. He was an active member of the Bancroft American Legion for over 70 years. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He is survived by eight daughters and three sons, Janet (Duane) Smith of Des Moines, Mary (Joe) Boies of Santa Fe, NM, Tom (Dorothy) Lampe of Altoona, Patty (Tom) Aures of Van Buren, AR, Betty (Truman Barthusen) Harrison of Cherokee, Sharon (Ernie) Reiter of Kanab, UT, Rose (Bernie) Brandenburg of Ash Flat, AR, Susie (Larry) Leach of Armstrong, Mike (Cathy) Lampe of Yukon, OK, Phil (Audrey) Lampe of Burt, and Vivian (Mark) Payne of Fort Collins, CO. He is also survived by 41 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Stevens of New Hampton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dorothy on December 26, 2005; four brothers, Percy, Arnold, Gene, and Leonard; a son-in-law, Ron Harrison; and a grandson-in-law, Ray Nisi.
