Edith M. Teig
May 9, 1922 - April 14, 2017

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center. Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral service.

Edith Marie (Boyken) Teig was born on May 9, 1922 on the farm in rural Woden, Iowa to John and Frieda (Fisher) Boyken. Edith grew up in the Woden area. She graduated from the country school. Edith also graduated from Waldorf College and then attended the University of Colorado at Boulder. After her education, Edith was a school teacher in Buffalo Center.

Edith met John, the love of her life, when he returned home from WWII. On November 19, 1946, they were united in marriage at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Titonka. The two of them were blessed with three children: Kathleen, Michael, and Betsy. A highlight of her life was golfing with John and spending time with family.

Throughout her life, Edith was a woman of faith and very active in her church. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School, Bible School, and Bethel classes for many years. She was active in the Ruth Circle, ladies quilting group, and Bible Study.

Edith's life largely revolved around her children and grandchildren. She loved attending all the various events in which her children and grandchildren participated. Edith died peacefully on Good Friday, at Titonka Care Center, surrounded by her family. She will be remembered for her snappy wit, generous heart, classy style, and authentic persona.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (David) Mazza of Brooklyn Park, MN, Betsy (Randall) Goetz of Buffalo Center; grandchildren, Sarah Mazza, Christopher (Julie) Mazza, Jennifer Teig-Mascari, James Goetz, Joseph Goetz; great-grandchildren, Keegan Mazza, Leonardo Mazza, Johnathon Mascari , Anabella Mascari, Christian Mascari , and Luciana Mascari; sister, Carol (Konrad) Koosemann of Fargo, North Dakota; special sister-in-law, Ruth Edwards, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, John in 2000; son, Michael in 1985; sisters and brothers, Marge Rose, John Robert Boyken, Joann Abbas, and Roger Boyken
