Leona B. Delavan, of Kingston, passed away Sunday night November 17th at Health Alliance Hospital, Mary's Avenue Campus.
Leona was a lifelong area resident. She was born in Kingston August 25, 1935 to the late Leland and Leona Boice.
A graduate of Kingston High School, Leona became a Legal Secretary. She spent most of her working life with the law firm of Howard C. St. John and Associates. She later worked for Ulster Savings Bank in the Closing Department, retiring in 2011.
She was the wife of the late Rawlson Delavan Sr. who died in 1984.
Leona was the beloved mother of Rawlson (Ross) Delavan Jr. of Port Ewen, Bonni Schechter of San Diego, California and Sheila Longendyke of Hurley. She was the cherished grandmother of Sara Delavan of Saugerties, John Longendyke of Hurley, Daniel Longendyke of Hurley, Ariana Schechter of Albany and Rawlson (Ross) Delavan III of Port Ewen. She will be sadly missed by her daughter-in-law Cynthia Delavan of Port Ewen and her son-in-law Ken Schechter of San Diego. Leona is also survived by a brother Frank Boice and his wife Veronica of Hurley, a sister-in-law Genevieve Delavan of Rosendale, several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Above all Leona loved her family; her happiest times were spent with her children and grandchildren, sharing their lives. She was a loving and supportive mother and grandmother, a kind and gentle person who will be missed by all who knew her.
Entrusted to the care of Eric Keyser, A. Carr & Son Funeral Home, 65 Lucas Avenue Kingston. The family will receive their friends on Wednesday November 20th from 4 - 7 pm. Burial will be private in Hurley Cemetery.
