Spyro George Notaras, 86, of Indianapolis, passed away on April 19, 2017 after a long and happy life. The youngest of six children, George was born March 1, 1931 in Appleton, WI to George and Kay Notaras, originally of Kythera, Greece. He attended Lawrence University, earning a BS in mathematics, and later earned a MS in mathematics from the University of Michigan.
He worked at Northwestern Mutual Life for seven years, and later spent 33 years as a consulting actuary at McCready & Keene in Indianapolis, retiring in 1997 as Chairman of the Board. He was active in Phi Delta Theta Fraternity for 67 years; was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Carmel for nearly 50 years; held a membership at Hillcrest Country Club for 30 years; and was a longstanding member of Kiwanis, the Society of American Magicians (SAM), and the GYRO and Scientech clubs.
He is survived by his wife, Carole; daughters Kelly Notaras and Stacy Murphy; son-in-law Scott Murphy; and beloved granddaughters Georgia and Sophie Murphy.
Celebration of life to be held at 11:00am Saturday, May 6, 2017, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church (1402 W. Main St, Carmel, IN 46032) with a calling beginning at 9:30am and reception to follow. Memorial donations may be sent to St. Christopher's Episcopal at the above address.
