April 5, 1925 - April 26, 2017

Betty Jean Stravers, age 92 of Prairie City, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Senior Suites in Urbandale. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Burial will follow at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Memorials may be directed in Betty's name to a charity of your choice. The daughter of Pete and Emma (Vander Waal) Steenhoek, Betty was born on April 5, 1925, in Prairie City. She graduated from Prairie City High School. On October 14, 1943, she was united in marriage to Laurence Stravers. Following her marriage, Betty farmed with her husband in the Prairie City and Vandalia area most of their life
Those left to honor her memory include her two sons, Gene (Donna) Stravers of Runnells and David (Connie) Stravers of West Des Moines; five grandchildren, Tony (Shelley) Stravers, Justin (Lori Reynolds) Breckenridge, Jason (Tanya) Stravers, Nicholas Stravers and Erica (RJ) Meyer; 14 great grandchildren and three sisters-in-law, Betty Howse, Beverly Elrod, and Beverly Steenhoek. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and a brother, Raymond Steenhoek.
