Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mallard. Interment is in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mallard.
Gerald Joseph Leuer, son of Joseph and Lottie (Wagner) Leuer, was born July 19, 1932 in Mallard, Iowa. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Grade School, and was a graduate of Mallard High School. He joined the United States Army serving during the Korean War.
After his service, Gerald was united in marriage to Regina Ann Reckard at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Rolfe, IA. He worked several jobs before farming the Leuer Family Farm, a century farm.
Gerald was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mallard, Anderson Eckert Hersom American Legion Post 345, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2295. He enjoyed traveling all over the United States and spending winters in Arizona with Ann. He liked to watch John Wayne movies, but his passion in life was farming and being with family.
On Friday, April 28, 2017, Gerald passed away at the Emmetsburg Care Center.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Regina Ann of Mallard; four children: James Leuer (Sue) of Lake City, MN, Thomas Leuer (Jody) of Mallard, Curtis Leuer (Debbie) of DeWitt, IA and Dennis Leuer (Joan) of Laurens, IA; two sisters: Virginia Shimpach of Cedar Falls, IA and Beverly King (Cliff) of Garner, NC; four brothers: Don Leuer (Barbara) of Bridgewater, MA, Richard Leuer (Roberta) of Oregon, Michael Leuer (Rosie) of Cedar Falls, IA and Ed Leuer (Janet) of Camp Verde, AZ; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert and brother-in-law, Louis Shimpach.
