Jerry Lynn Covey, 76, joined his Father in heaven May 23, 2017, after a lengthy and hard fought-battle with pancreatic cancer. Visitation will be all day, Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the funeral home with family present from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held, at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at Grape Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Brad Winchester officiating. Interment will follow in Grape Creek Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Grape Creek.
Jerry was born to Nola and Lucian Covey in O'Brien, TX on October 25, 1940. He graduated from O'Brien High School in 1958. He married Karen Frances (Kay) Covey in September 1961, and they were blessed with daughter Laura in 1966, and son, Keith in 1969. Jerry worked for IBM for 26 years in various locations in Midland, San Angelo, and Zweibrucken, Germany. Jerry later worked for Data Serve, Compaq and HP in Dallas, TX, Birmingham, AL, Atlanta, GA, Battle Creek, Michigan and Houston, TX. Jerry returned to San Angelo in the early 2000's where he worked for San Angelo Independent School District until his illness in the fall of 2015. He was a jack of all trades and had numerous projects and side jobs to include raising hydroponic tomatoes, repairing CB radios and reloading ammunition. He was formerly a School Board Member at Grape Creek Independent District and a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church and Grape Creek Baptist Church. He was also a member of SASS (Single Action Shooting Society).
Jerry is survived by his life partner Karen Frances (Kay) Covey, his daughter,
Laura Beeson and husband Bob; his son,Keith Covey and daughter- in- law Mandy Smith; brother, L.A. Covey and wife Eva. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Clayton Beeson and wife Meagan, Sterling Beeson and wife Alisha, Kristin Covey, Cole Covey, Sloan Smith, Raegan Smith and Justin Smith in addition to great-grandchildren, Cadeyn Beeson, River Beeson and Blake Beeson.
