Leo Edward Conway
February 24, 1935 - June 4, 2017

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Burial is in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at Joyce Funeral Home. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 6:45 p.m.

Leo Edward Conway, Jr., son of Leo and Nelle (Calentine) Conway was born February 24, 1935 in Graettinger, IA. He attended country school near Graettinger, and he was a 1953 graduate of Emmetsburg Catholic High School where he was active in basketball and baseball. Leo received his AA from Iowa Lakes Community College.

Following his education, Leo entered the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany for two years. In 1957, Leo was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Arlene Burns, and together, they raised four children. One of his greatest joys was watching and being involved in his children and grandchildren's sports and school activities. Leo worked for 35 years for the United States Postal Service.

He was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he was an usher, Eucharistic Minister, lector, sang in the choir and served on the parish council. Leo was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. Post 2295, the Rural Mail Carriers Association and the St. Patrick's Association.

On Sunday, June 4, 2017, Leo passed away at his home in Emmetsburg.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Arlene of Emmetsburg; daughters: Kathy (John) O'Malley, Jeanne (Tony) Sambol and Molly (Tim) Sprakel all of Omaha; daughter-in-law, Mary Lynn Conway of Sioux City; 13 grandchildren; 5 step-grandsons; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 sisters: Lucille Sewell, Alice Murphy, Delores Hauber, Mary Ellen Schroder, Virginia Fokken and Frances Brink.

Leo was preceded in death by his son, Patrick Conway; parents; and two sisters: Florence Lynch and Edna Nelson.

Whenever we would be learning a new song, Leo would always ask if "we got paid more money for learning this" and then he would give us his heartiest laugh. I sincerely thank Leo for his contributions to our funeral choir. Rest in peace, Leo!"
