Ruth Elvina Damstrom
July 6, 1921 - June 14, 2017

Funeral Service for Ruth will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 16, 2017 at Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Burial is in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on
Friday.

Ruth Elvina Damstrom was born July 6, 1921 in Cylinder, IA, the daughter of Selmer and Christine (Madsen) Heng. She was a 1939 graduate of Cylinder High School, and she attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls.

On November 5, 1945, Ruth was united in marriage to Darven Arnold Damstrom in Emmetsburg. Ruth taught school at the Fairfield 5 Schoolhouse for several years. She also worked as a bookkeeper and secretary at Emmetsburg Memorial Hospital, Wigdahl's Plumbing and Heating, Wigdahl's Hardware and Emmetsburg Production Credit Association.

Ruth was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg where she was active in circle groups, quilting, putting on the Scandinavian Tea and Bizarre, and teaching Sunday school. She was also the secretary for the March of Dimes for a number of years, and she enjoyed attending USS O'Bannon Destroyer Reunions.

On June 14, 2017 Ruth passed away at Parc Hall in Emmetsburg.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary Catharine Damstrom of Ankeny and sister, Catharine Dillon and her husband, Jerry of Emmetsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darven; three brothers: William, Clifford and Ralph Heng; two sisters: Bess Voigt and Maryann Friedrichsen.
