Jean Hixson
January 16, 1933 - June 1, 2017

Jean A. Hixson, 84, of Winona, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Saint Anne Extended Healthcare. Jean was born at home in Winona, on January 16, 1933 to Russell and Eleanor (Borzakowski) Prenot. She graduated from Winona Senior High in 1951.

 

Jean married Elmer Buck in 1951. After his death in 1961, Jean and their two sons moved to California where they lived for 40 years outside of Los Angeles and Central California. Jean married Louis Hixson in 1965. She raised 6 step-children.

 

Jean worked for various companies in Winona. She worked at Watkins, Miller's Dress shop, Red Owl and Cichanowski Jewelry Store.

 

Jean enjoyed reading and listening to music. She liked to sing and dance, play guitar, organ and the drums. Jean was an avid cook and collected cookbooks. In her later years, she was proud to learn how to use an i-pad, which she was fond of playing games on and keeping up with her family.

 

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Elmer Buck and Louis Hixson, Sr.; brothers, Jack Prenot, Allyn Janikowski, Robert Mayer; great-granddaughter Hayley; and niece, Rebecca Janikowski.

 

She is survived by sons, Michael and Carl Buck, Louis Hixson, Jr.; grandchildren, Rebecca Buck and Michael Buck, Jr.; brothers, Leonard (Joann) Mayer, Daniel Janikowski; sister, Shirley Austin.

 

A Ritual of Christian Burial will be on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 7 p.m. at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home with visitation starting at 6 p.m.
