MUSCATINE, Iowa - Donald Elbert Marler, 84, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Burial will take place on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery Columbarium. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements. Online condolences can be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Donald was born on March 25, 1933 in Pilot Knob, Missouri, the son of Oscar E. and Lola Mae Parton Marler. He married Anna Mae Vance in 1958, and they later divorced. He then married Kim G. Dinh on June 11, 1975.

Donald was a retired commissioned officer from the U.S. Coast Guard. He also retired from BT Prime Mover/HON Industries.

He earned an Associates of Science from Central Arizona College. He enjoyed reading, fishing, and hunting, watching baseball, basketball, football, figure skating, and gymnastics.

Survivors include his wife, Kim Marler of Muscatine; a daughter Beverly Christopher and husband, Michael; a son Donald Marler, and wife, Tessie; seven grandchildren, Neiska, Willina, Steven, Jared, Raymond, Rebekah, and Donald; 10 great grandchildren; one brother Gene Marler; one sister, June Mays; one sister-in-law, Gladys Marler; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Donna; four brothers, Paul, Kenneth, Edward, and Dale; and three sisters, Helen, Nelda, and Patsy.
