Carmen A. Fiore
September 19, 1932 - July 5, 2017

Carmen A. Fiore, age 84, of Berkeley Township, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at his home in Toms River, New Jersey.

A native of Trenton, Carmen lived at various times in Hamilton Township, Stockton, Robbinsville and Viera, Florida, before settling at his current address in Toms River 10 years ago. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Rider College (now University) in 1954 prior to serving two years in the United States Army during the mid 1950s. He later earned a Master's Degree in education from Rutgers University.

Early in his career, Carmen was a social worker and an elementary school teacher. He then went on to become an appraiser for the Highway Department of the State of New Jersey. His real passion was writing fiction books for children and adults as well as non-fiction. He also did freelance editing in his spare time. He was an active member of the Writers Group in Hamilton Township and was featured in the Who's Who in America 2003-2007 editions. He was an avid Civil War buff, gave presentations to Civil War roundtables, and supported groups like the Civil War Trust, which helps preserve Civil War historical sites.

Carmen was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Margaret Fiore, and his siblings Earnest Fiore, Jr. and Rosalie Duvin. Surviving are his loving wife Catherine Fiore (Butera); children David R. Fiore, and Lisa JanFrancisco and her husband Tom; granddaughter Samantha Childs; niece Lynne Mary Rupp and her husband Doug; nephews Frank Butera and his wife Joyce and Richard Butera and his wife Chrystal; and many loving cousins, extended family and dear friends.

Cremation was private and entrusted to Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation and thanks to Holy Redeemer Home Care and Hospice and Care Street for their excellent care of Carmen during his last days.
