"Our sympathy to all of you at your loss. We had several opportunities to talk with Joel when he visited his parents, and he was always friendly and welcoming. We especially appreciated his sharing Don and Ferne with us and our kids. Through our friendship with Joel's parents, we felt like we knew your family when your kids were growing up. Don and Ferne were proud of all of you and talked of you often. Your photos were prominently displayed in their home. I'm sure Joel will be missed by many."

"Sally and Family, Joel was always a fun person to work with and and found a way to find a little humor in everything. He was always polite to those he encountered but more importantly was a " good guy". Always quick to help out if you needed assistance. The Post picnics and Christmas parties were always a good time when the Roodes were in attendance. Sally, may you and your family be comforted by the grace and mercy of Jesus during the days ahead. Peace to you and all of your loved ones. Respectfully Todd & Robin Misel #121"

"Joel represented his state and the community well. I don't know of any other ISP trooper as well respected as Joel is. While he and I never met - thank goodness - I have no doubt I would have been treated fairly by this totally professional man. "

"Karen and I met Joel and Sally in 1977. We instantly thought about how nice they both were. Sally...words cannot express our deep condolences to you and your family on his passing. I will always remember his smile and infectious laugh. He was a pleasure to work with as well, and was compassionate with everyone I saw him interact with...even after he hit that culvert in the median...he treated the violator with complete respect and dignity."
