Dorothy B. (Finlayson ) O'Connell, 94, of Port Charlotte FL and formerly Worcester MA passed away on July 7, 2017. She was the widow of John J. O'Connell who died in 1995.
Born in Queensland Australia, the daughter of Kenneth and Jessica Finlayson, she met her husband during World War II while he was serving in Australia. They were married in Sydney Australia in 1945 and Dot followed her husband to the United States in 1946. Dot worked for many years for the Worcester School System and retired to Florida with her husband in 1993. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed travelling and visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister; Marge Devitt of Port Macquarie Australia, three nieces; Jennifer Devitt of Australia; Annette Haen of California and Ann Truheart of Florida, four children; Geoffrey O'Connell (Cindy) of Wilmington NC; Gary O'Connell (Beth) of Wilmington NC; Brian O'Connell (Lucia) of Port Charlotte FL and Ngaire Cuneo (Richard) of Naples FL, eight grandchildren; Lauren Cuneo (Nicholas Klein) of Brooklyn NY; Matthew Cuneo of Brooklyn NY; Michael Cuneo of New York City; Brent O'Connell of Vienna Austria; Jamie O'Connell (Cory) of Cambridge MA; Alex O'Connell of New York City; Andrew O'Connell of Port Charlotte FL; Jessica O'Connell of Port Charlotte FL, and three great-grandchildren; Eleanor Klein; Owen Klein and Ariana O'Connell. She is greatly loved and will be missed.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 28th, 2017 at 11am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 2500 Easy St. Port Charlotte, FL.
