Betty Jane Hough
April 2, 1927 - July 12, 2017

Funeral service for Jane will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 15, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. Burial is in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Jane was born in West Bend, Iowa on April 2, 1927, the daughter of LaFayette and Margaret (Reardon) Fay. She was the youngest of ten children, with five sisters and four brothers. After graduation from Emmetsburg High School, she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and worked in a radio factory.

On October 15, 1945, Jane was united marriage to Lawrence (Bud) Hough, and they raised three children: Jeanette Frambach (Jim) of Emmetsburg, Jim (Peggy) Hough of Thompson's Station, TN and Dr. John (Diann) Hough of Paola, KS.
Jane worked side by side with her husband on their farm northwest of Emmetsburg. She raised cattle and hogs and grew corn and soybeans. The whole family was very active in 4-H exhibiting winning steers at the local, state and national levels. Daughter Jeanette graduated from Morningside College and was a lifelong high school mathematics teacher. Sons Jim and John graduated from Iowa State University with degrees in Animal Science. John received his advanced degrees from the University of Georgia.

Jane took up oil painting later in life. She enjoyed this hobby until her eyesight prohibited her to continue. Jane attended many art shows receiving several awards. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren (6) and great-grandchildren (14).

Survivors include her three children, six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bud in September of 1984.
