LeRoy Dale Schaaf
September 27, 1933 - July 10, 2017

LeRoy Dale Schaaf was born on September 27, 1933 in New England, North Dakota. He passed away on July 10, 2017 at Northbrook Manor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. LeRoy was self-employed in Glendive, Montana and later worked for Burlington Northern in Glendive and Livingston, Montana. He retired as supervisor for BN-Santa Fe in West Burlington, Iowa in August 1995.
LeRoy married Margaret Blackford. They were later divorced. He married Fredricka Swanson in 1976. She died in 1994. He married Frances Fairchild on September 3, 2005.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Fredricka, his son Rodney, and his brother Lyle Schaaf. He is survived by his wife, Frances, his son Terry Schaaf (Lori), Bowman, North Dakota; his daughters Rhonda Sinclair, Santa Fe, New Mexico, Tammi Erickson (Lance), Jupiter, Florida, Jody Shultz (Todd), New London, Iowa; his stepchildren Valerie Hillman (Vince), Livingston, Montana, Paul Swanson (Stacey), Beach, North Dakota, Stephanie Swanson, Livingston, Montana and Lisa Myers (Mark), Fairfield, Iowa; Grandchildren Melissa Ward (Patrick), Kelly Braaten (Ben), Kyle and Allie Sinclair, Matthew and Chad Erickson, Paige Fetterhoff (Eric), Brandon Hillman, Nicholas and Connor Amsk, Hope, Storm and Steffan Swanson, Jordan Bradfield (Kelsey), Quinton Bradfield (Summer), Drew Myers, Olivia and CharliAnn Schulz; Thirteen great grandchildren; Brothers Loren, Kenneth, and Bernard Schaaf; Sisters Ann Joslin and Norma Walters.
LeRoy enjoyed travelling to Las Vegas, Montana and North Dakota to spend time with his children and their families. LeRoy and Fran spent winters in Jupiter, Florida for over 20 years, again spending time in Jupiter with family. He enjoyed spending time with his Iowa kids on holidays and birthdays. He loved his children and grandchildren. They were all very special to him. He enjoyed cars - particularly Dodge and Chrysler. He had many memories of his Dodge Charger. As his family grew up, he enjoyed boating and water skiing with them. Snowmobiling in Yellowstone Park was another favorite activity. He enjoyed sharing stories of these adventures with friends and family.
Memorials have been set up for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital and the Des Moines County Cancer Relay for Life in Burlington.
Services will be at Lunning Funeral Chapel in Burlington, Iowa at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2007. Visitation will be from 9:00 - 11:00 before the services.
