Ruth Naomi Rosenthal
July 19, 1915 - July 13, 2017

Ruth Rosenthal, 101, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the Dumont Wellness Center in Dumont.

Ruth Naomi Rosenthal was born July 19, 1915, in Elkhart, Iowa to Bertha (Meyer) and Lester Harris. When she was 10, her mother married Harold Paxton and the family moved to Boone and then to Carroll. Ruth worked as a mother's helper and later moved to Waterloo where she worked at McClellan's department store and taught youth choir at the Presbyterian Church.

Ruth met Fred Rosenthal at the Electric Park Ballroom and they were married February 24, 1947. They had two children, Cathy and Gary (Pete). They lived in Klemme and Rockwell before moving to a farm in Dumont. After the death of her husband, Ruth moved to an apartment in Dumont, and then to Townview Court, Dutchman's Oaks and finally to the Dumont Wellness Center in 2008.

Ruth belonged to the United Methodist Church and was active in U.M.W. holding several offices including president at Klemme and Rockwell. She taught Sunday school and bible school. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, mission club, and was a president of the library board at the Dumont Library. She volunteered at the Dumont Wellness Center and for Meals on Wheels. Ruth loved working as the answering service for the North Central Veterinary Clinic and thought of Brian and the staff as family.

Ruth enjoyed her family, reading, crocheting, crossword puzzles and her doll collection. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor, caring manner, and easy going approach to life. She loved helping others.

Ruth will be missed by her daughter Cathy; son Gary (Donna); grandchildren Hilary (Justin) and Dylan (Anna); four great-grandchildren; and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, step-father, brother, sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at the Dumont Wellness Center. Ruth loved you all.


Memorials may be made to the Dumont Library or the New Hope Parish of the United Methodist Church - Dumont Center.
