"Remembering my dads pioneering spirit . He had a number of interests  and was an avid reader and lover of history. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking and gold mining, traveling, building things, collecting old bottles and hunting for antiques in old ghost towns.  Having grown up in a small coastal town in Massachusetts he had strong affection for  the ocean, boats, lighthouses , piers,  that he grew up around and loved seafood especially that New England Clam chowder! ."

"My grandfather served in the United States Armed Forces and was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1953. He was a retired carpenter for the city of San Jose, where he helped reconstruct the historical Empire Firehouse. He had four children and five grandchildren. My favorite memories of him were when he taught my sister and I to fish, pan for gold in California's Feather River, and built us both an epic snow igloo one winter and later a treehouse which is still intact. I also loved hiking and camping with him on Mount Lassen. He built beautiful things with his hands and memories in my heart which I will cherish forever. Granddaddy, you are loved and appreciated. "
