Wesley L. Miller
June 12, 1929 - July 16, 2017

Wesley L. Miller, 88, of Keokuk, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

Wesley was born in Jackson Gap, Alabama, on June 12, 1929, the son of Ringgold and Winnie Miller. On July 15, 1994, he was united in marriage to Julie Denise Griffeth in Keokuk. She survives.

A resident of Keokuk since 1964, Wesley was employed at Sheller-Globe for many years and proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War, where he was wounded in combat and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. His military roles included military police and tanker. Wesley had many skills and was considered a jack-of-all-trades. He worked as a cabinet-maker, raised many types of dogs, and even had his own radio show in Chicago during the 1950's. Farming, mechanics, woodworking, and homebuilding were also part of his skill-sets. In addition to these skills, Wesley also enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, and honing his survival skills.

Wesley is survived by his wife Julie of Keokuk; his sons Wesley Eugene Miller and Woodrow Wayne Miller of Keokuk; his daughters Gail Pouncey of Valley, Alabama; and Wina Ilene Miller of Texas; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his niece Betty Jean Ragar and his nephew Bill Mann.

Wesley is preceded in death by his son Kim La Vance, his brothers Bluford, Floyd and B.L. Miller, his sisters Emma, Dorris and Nora, and his nephew Harold Mann.

Wesley's life will be celebrated with a graveside service with military honors at Keokuk National Cemetery at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 31, 2017.
