Theodore "Ted" Dale Wiggins

Ted D. Wiggins, 86, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa.
A celebration of Ted's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, July 28, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, where a 6:45 P.M. Masonic Service will be held. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa, with military honors.
Theodore Dale Wiggins was born on May 13, 1931 in Lawrence, Kansas to Theodore Roosevelt and Ruby May (Surface) Wiggins. He grew up in Kansas and graduated from Lawrence High School. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict earning an honorable discharge. He married Patricia Ann "Pat" Thomas on April 24, 1954 in Lawrence, Kansas. To this union five children were born: Lori Ann, Terri, Mark, Chris and Sheryl.
Ted was owner and operator of the Spragueville Stockyards for many years and also a self-employed Real Estate Broker.
Ted was a 50 year member of the Maquoketa Masonic Helion Lodge #36 AF & AM where he served as a past Master. He also was a member of the Maquoketa VFW Post #3633 O'Connor-Regenwether, the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75, the Eastern Star and the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa.
Ted enjoyed woodworking and was a craftsman, gardening and spending time with his family.
Those left to honor Ted's memory include his children, Terri Notz of Lee's Summit, MO, Mark (Brenda) Wiggins of Maquoketa, IA, Chris (Lisa) Wiggins of Gainsboro, TN, and Sheryl Wiggins of Lawrence, KS; 6 grandchildren, Josh (Jamie) Wiggins of Hugo, MN, Jayson (Ashley) Wiggins of Maquoketa, IA, Jesse Notz of Denver, CO, Rudy Notz of Denver, CO, Heather Notz of Kansas City, MO, and Tanya Whitmer of Carthage, TN; 10 great-grandchildren, Madyson, Justin and Ellie Wiggins, Jayley and Kiyley Wiggins, Jonas and Zoe Godwin, Jacob and Genevieve Notz, and Geremiah Whitmer; and sisters Josephine Philips of Olive Hill, KY, and Roney Slane of Wichita, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pat on October 24, 2005, a daughter Lori Ann, and a brother Edsel.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Ted D. Wiggins memorial fund has been established.

"I'm sorry I am unable to attend services. Ted was a wonderful man and cared so much about my children and I even though he never met my kiddos. He would stop down at my work and say he only came to gamble to try to win so he could share with me and my children. Even if he lost he would ask for a cup of coffee and give me $5:) Even if I would say it's ok you don't have to give it to me he would make me take it. He had such a big heart ?? He always had something to say that made me laugh. And I will always remember the first time I met him. He ordered a cup of coffee and said "guess what"? I said "what"? And he said "it's my birthday". I said happy birthday. He asked "well do ya got anything for me"? I said "no I'm sorry I didn't know it was your birthday". He said "well how about a hug"? I said "I'm sorry I don't know you". He said" well that's alright we can still be friends because I can tell that your one of a kind". We talked ever time he came in and everyone would laugh because he would never get a cup of coffee from anyone else if I was working. Although I told him many times it was instant coffee he still insisted that I made the best cup of coffee. Gosh how he braught a smile to my face! When he told me he was sick I was so sad I gave him a hug and he smiled and told me that I made his day. I wish I had more time to have our little chats. He would talk about his kids and I would talk about mine. He would talk about how much he missed his wife and how much he loved her. He always had the hopes that someone would come into my life and love my kiddos. His face lite up the day I told him I was with a good man. No one every seemed to be so happy for me. I am going to miss him so much! I didn't find out until today that he passed and I didn't have enough time to make aragments for my children to come pay my respects and for that I am sorry. You guys were so blessed to have Ted as part of your family! I am so sorry for your loss. "
