Virginia Ruth McCabe, 90, of New London, died Friday, July 28, 2017 at Danville Care Center. She was born April 30, 1927 in Kansas City, Kansas to Henry Arthur and Mary "May" E. Linderman Snelson. She married Harold Bamford; they divorced. On October 2, 1948, she married Charles McCabe in Kansas City. He died October 11, 2014.
Virginia worked at Katz Drugstore in Kansas City and at the IAAP during the war. During World War II, she was a WAC stationed at an aircraft base in Kansas City. She was a member of the Moose Club and New London Women's Auxiliary 7641. She attended school at St. Peters Catholic School in Kansas City, KS. and was a member of New London Christian Church.
She enjoyed roller skating, shopping at Wal-Mart, yard sales, flea markets, Old Threshers and was self-taught at sewing and crafting. She really loved Christmas, red lipstick and her cats! She and her husband loved to dance and were in many dance contests.
Mrs. McCabe is survived by one daughter, Diana "Dee" (Wayne) Johnson of Danville; four grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Austin, Texas; Michelle (Troy) Warth, St. James, MO; Joshua (Brandi) Johnson, Burlington; and Johanna (Brandon) Hand, Burlington; fourteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Rose Snelson of Kansas and Dorothy Snelson of Nevada. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings; Lester, Jane, Frances, Vera, Viola, Mary, Arthur and Joseph.
The service for Virginia McCabe will be Tuesday at 10:00 AM at Elliott Chapel, New London with Pastor Rod Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Burge Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon Monday with the family greeting friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Because of her love of Christmas the family requests Christmas attire. A memorial has been established to Children's Miracle Network.
