Rhoda MacLellan Rice

Rhoda MacLellan Rice, who was born March 8, 1933, died August 1st 2017. Rhoda grew up in Manchester New Hampshire, attended Newton Country Day School and graduated from Wellesley College in 1954 where she studied to be a teacher. Rhoda married Donald Buckingham and moved to the Chicagoland area where they raised their seven children. Donald died when she was 37 years old. Several years later, she married Donald Rice, and eventually they moved to the Placida area. Rhoda has been active in the golfing community, the Wellesley Club of Sarasota and the Englewood library; she loved yoga, walking on the beach, swimming, reading and lifelong learning. Rhoda was predeceased by her children Sarah Buckingham and Molly Sweet. She is survived by her children Donald Buckingham, Beth Baxter, Susan Buckingham, Amy Buckingham and Polly Buckingham and grandchildren Donald Johnson, Jessica Buckingham, David Maxfield Baxter, Donald Francis William Buckingham, Helen Jack, Amy Baxter, Peter Baxter, and Simon Sweet. A memorial mass will be held at 1pm on Saturday, August 5th at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Boca Grande.
