Margery Dorothy Schnaars

Margery Dorothy Schnaars of Englewood, Florida died peacefully Wednesday August 2nd 2017.

Mrs. Schnaars was born in Hackensack, New Jersey on February 3rd, 1931 to her parents Margaret and Thomas Grant. During her childhood years, Margery lived with her parents and her younger sister Francine in Wallington and Hackensack, NJ, before graduating from Holy Trinity High School in 1949. While in high school she met Charles Abram Schnaars, her future husband of over sixty years.

Margery and Charles got married in 1955 in Hackensack, NJ. They initially lived in Teaneck where she worked as a secretary in the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office before leaving to start a family. In 1962 the couple moved to Columbus Drive in Tenafly, NJ where they raised five children. While in Tenafly, Mrs. Schnaars worked for many years as a secretary in the guidance office at Tenafly High School. After retiring in 1991, Charles and Margery moved to Englewood, FL where they resided until both passed in 2017.

Margery will be remembered as a strong, caring, and loving wife and mother. With a faithful selfless demeanor, she was the rock of her family whom always thought of others before herself. She encouraged her children to be the best they could be at whatever they desired to do and supported them in each endeavor. Margery was very active in her children's lives and in her community. She was involved with the Brownies and Girl Scouts, was a Cub Scout den leader, presided over the Women's Auxiliary of Tenafly Little League baseball, and played an active role in the booster clubs of the high school soccer and track teams. She never missed a game or performance her children participated in and was always in the stands cheering for the hometown Tigers.

In retirement, one of Margery's great loves was to travel with her husband, children, and grandchildren to places throughout many parts of the world. She enjoyed the beach, cooking, and remained very active by participating in many different games and activities with neighbors and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents and her husband Charles, Mrs. Schnaars is survived by her sister Francine Grant, her daughter Terri Anne and husband Richard Caraluzzo along with their daughter Amanda, her sons Charles, Thomas, Martin, and Timothy and wife Susan along with their sons Tyler and Tucker. Mrs. Schnaars will be buried in a private ceremony, and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
