Vernon E. Simpson, age 88, passed away August 6, 2017 in West Chester, Ohio. He was born to the late Herman and Eunice Simpson on January 28, 1929 in Hamilton, Ohio. Vernon proudly served in the United States Navy and flew over 100 missions during the Berlin Air Lift where he received the US Air Force Air Medal. He played for the Navy Fast Pitch Softball All Star Team and Immanuel Baptist Church Softball Team for several years, where he also was a member. Vernon retired from the United States Post Office after 10 years of service. Vernon enjoyed golf, baseball, football and gardening. He loved being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Vernon is survived by his children Johanna Lierer, Bill (Nancy Byrnes) Simpson, Robert Simpson, Richard (Sandy) Simpson, Susan (Mike) Weldon; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; 2 siblings June (Dick) Winkler and Wayne Simpson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Simpson; 2 grandchildren Michael Simpson and Robert Simpson; 4 siblings Kent Ward, Vernell Baecker, Violet Drake, Harold Simpson; daughter-in-law Diane Simpson; sister-in-law Lynn Simpson and his parents. A visitation will be held at Ivey Funeral Home Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 10am-12pm with a funeral service to follow at 12pm. Burial will take place at Rose Hill Burial Park.
