George W Hill Jr.
May 14, 1934 - January 27, 2017

George W. Hill, Jr., age 82, died peacefully January 27, 2017 in Venice, Florida. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joanne in 2013. He is survived by cherished children, daughter Kathleen(Dale) Heltemes of Andover MN., sons Ronald of Fremont WI. and George(Leeann) of Chisago City, MN., granddad to beautiful granddaughters Kari(Clayton) Kearns, Jennifer(Jordan) Gooderum, Kristy(Sam) McBride and Rachel Hill, and loving great granddad to Chase and Ronnie Jo Gooderum and Vera Kearns.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Mr. Hill graduated from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and after serving in the U.S. Army as Captain, began his career as an executive with Sears, ultimately serving in the position of Territorial Merchandise Manager in Skokie, Illinois. During his career with Sears, the Hill family lived in Grand Forks, ND; Eau Claire, WI; Racine, WI; suburbs of Chicago, IL. and Wayzata, MN. Leaving Sears in 1976, George worked in sales for AAA of Minnesota and AAA of Minneapolis. In 1986, with children grown, George and Joanne sold their home and moved to Venice Florida where they created and published a successful senior newspaper. In 1991, they returned to Minnesota and resided in New Hope. From 1992 to 2003, Mr. Hill was employed at JCPenney's/Brookdale in the men's suit department. He was a popular figure among his co-workers and had an impressive list of faithful customers in his department. After retirement in 2003, George and Joanne returned to Venice, FL. Both George and Joanne loved their life in Florida and each other tremendously. They had many good friends in the Venice community. They will be missed by many.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for George and Joanne 10:30AM, Friday, August 18 at The Church of the Epiphany, 1900 111th Ave. NW, Coon Rapids, MN. Visitation at the church one hour before the service. Private interment at Gethsemane Cemetery in New Hope, MN.
