Edward J. Kisch
August 21, 1934 - August 7, 2017

A funeral Mass for Ed Kisch, 82, of Algona will be held on Friday at 10:30 AM at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Thursday at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona with a Knights of Columbus Rosary beginning at 6:30 PM and a Scriputre Prayer Service immediately following.

Edward James Kisch, the son of Simon J. and Mary K. (Humann) Kisch was born August 21, 1934, in Whittemore. Ed graduated from Presentation Academy in Whittemore in 1952, and then served in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956. He was united in marriage to Mary Illa Erpelding on May 6, 1961, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona.

Ed worked his entire career at Reding's Gravel and Excavating from 1952 until his retirement in 2011. He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Parish faithfully spending every Tuesday morning from 2:00 AM until 3:00 AM in the Adoration Chapel. He did this from the beginning of the Adoration Chapel until 2012. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Ed could be found in the kitchen washing dishes at many K of C events, parish fund raisers, and at the St. Cecelia fair stand.

Ed enjoyed working with his antiques, gardening, and especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He had a special appreciation of nature and the simple things in life.

Edward J. Kisch died Monday, August 7, 2017, at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, with his family at his bedside, at the age of 82.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Illa Kisch of Algona; two children, Amy Hupfer and her husband Justin of Johnston and Anthony "Tony" Kisch and his wife Debra of Waterloo; four grandchildren, Nathan and Owen Hupfer of Johnston and Morgan and Elizabeth Kisch of Waterloo. He is also survived by a sister, Angela Ackermann of Des Plaines, IL; sisters-in-law, Rosanne (Mike) Schmit of Algona, Madonna (Gary) Johnson of Estherville, Janet (Lewis) Elbert of Clarkston, MI, Bonnie Erpelding of Algona, and Jenese Kisch of Lehigh; brother-in-law, James (Judy) Erpelding of Golden, CO; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bernard (Marie) Kisch, Paul (Betty) Kisch, Joe Kisch, Frank (Agnes) Kisch; and sister, Loretta (Marvin) Derner; a brother-in-law, Roy Ackermann; and a sister, Gertude in infancy.
