Eugene Yuji Mochizuki
November 14, 1922 - August 10, 2017

Passed away peacefully from natural causes on August 10, 2017 at Bellevue's Overlake Hospital at age 94. Born "Yuji" to Hideichi and Yoshie Mochizuki on Nov. 14, 1922 in Seattle, he changed his first name to "Eugene" and graduated from Garfield High School in 1941. Removed to the WWII Minidoka camp the next year, he left in 1943 to enter an engineering school in Milwaukee, Wis., and served in the U.S. Army, based in Iowa. Eugene then attended Nebraska Wesleyan University at Lincoln, Neb., graduating in 1946, and returned to Seattle. He married Miyeko Nakano in 1948 and began his lifelong career as a social worker, juvenile court probation officer, and college instructor including at the University of Washington School of Social Work and Society and Justice program. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Miyeko; sons James (Susan), Ken and Alan (Stacey); grandchildren Aaron, Nathan, Tyler and Sydney. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Waka Dannenhauer, brothers Ayao and Saburo, sister-in-law Lilly Chiyeko Nakano and daughter-in-law Merry Mochizuki.

A private service was held. The family wishes to thank Abundant Life adult family home for Eugene's 13 months of remarkable care. Remembrances may be made to Keiro Northwest.
