Teresa C. Désiga
September 15, 1930 - August 12, 2017

Progreso Lakes- Teresa C. Désiga, 86, a dear and loving mother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12th, 2017 at her home in Progreso Lakes. She was surrounded by her children.

Teresa was born on September 15, 1930 in Matagorda Bay to Angel and Soledad Chavez. She was the second of five children and the eldest daughter. When she was a young child, the family moved to Progreso Lakes, where she lived most of her life. Teresa began working as a very young lady. At the age of fourteen, she began helping Mordie and Marcelle Mummert and they loved her so much, she continued to work with them for over fifty years. Shortly after she began working for the Mummert family, she met the handsome gardener next door, Fidel, who would become her husband and father of eleven children. Teresa and Fidel were married on January 29th, 1954 and started a family right away at their home in Progreso Lakes. Unfortunately, Fidel had an accident twenty years later and Teresa was left to raise her ten children as a single mother, as one child had already passed away. She never remarried and was devoted to her work and children. She was a well respected and sought after housekeeper. After the Mummert's passed away, she would work for the Hunt family and the Cellum family.

Teresa was full of laughter, life and fun. She was a people pleaser and she enjoyed cooking delicious meals and baking delectable desserts. Some of her favorites were lasagne, menudo, tamales and homemade tortillas. She would pick fresh citrus and make citrus marmalade. She was also famous for her wedding cookies and fresh chocolate chip cookies. Teresa was known for her cheerful smile and true faith in God. She enjoyed life and traveled often to visit her sons and daughters. As she traveled, one of her sons introduced her to a casino and became quite the slot player. As a matter of fact, she just won a slot championship in June, at the age of 86 years old, she beat out 10 players to earn the 1st place slot. Teresa loved to decorate. She decorated for every occasion, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc. When the kids had birthdays, which with ten was quite often, she would place their picture in the center of a decorated house to celebrate their birthday, making each child feel special and unique. She loved mariachi bands and Teresa loved to sing and dance.

Teresa is preceded in death by her parents, Angel and Soledad Chavez, her husband, Fidel, her daughter, Amparo Désiga, her brother, Raul Chavez, and her sisters, Alicia Aragon and Concepcíon Jimenez.
