Rose A. Dirksen
January 10, 1914 - August 14, 2017

Rose Atelda Dirksen, 103, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

She was born January 10, 1914, near the small town of Walnut Grove, Minnesota, to Christ and Anna Johnson. When Rose was six years old, the family moved to Bode, Iowa. She attended country school for three years, then public school in Alexander, Iowa. Rose was baptized on June 7, 1914, by W.M. Gillis at the Holy Church, south of Walnut Grove.

In 1928, Rose was confirmed in the Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church, east of Latimer. On January 18, 1936, she was united in marriage to Jerry Dirksen, son of Henry and Mina (Koenen) Dirksen. They lived on a farm by Latimer for 12 years. Rose worked as a farm wife along with her husband for many years.

In 1948, they purchased a farm north of Hampton. Rose and Jerry retired from farming in 1979, and moved to Sheffield, Iowa. In 1989, Rose moved to Hampton. She was a member of the Zion Reformed Church. Rose attended church there for approximately 70 years. She enjoyed W.O.Z. and was a member of the Franklin General Hospital Auxiliary. Rose enjoyed crocheting, cooking, baking, flowers and working outside. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, daughter Gladys Koch, daughter-in-law Ann Dirksen, grandson Kevin Koch, two sisters Clara Frey and Christina Schomburg.

Rose is survived by her daughter Carolyn (Burdeen) Sluiter of Dumont, son Richard (Carolyn) Dirksen of Hampton, son-in-law Delmar Koch of Sheffield, two nieces Ruth Nygard and Donna Pals, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
