Ruth L. Newman
November 24, 1954 - August 30, 2017

Ruth L. Newman, age 62, of Kensett, Iowa passed away August 30th, 2017, at Hospice of North Iowa.
A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave, Mason City, with Joel Thompson officiating. A visitation will be held Saturday, September 2nd from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City, Iowa.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family would like memorials to be directed to the Ruth Newman Memorial Fund. All proceeds will then be given to Shiloh, a children's orphanage in Israel that Ruth and Jay were dedicated to. Memorials can be sent to Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel.
Ruth Loretta Lewerke was born November 24, 1954, in Mason City, Iowa to Elzo and Yvonne (Stratton) Lewerke. She grew up in Rockwell and graduated from Rockwell-Swaledale High School. During her senior year of high school, Ruth was also enrolled in La James Beauty School graduating just a month after finishing high school. Ruth married the love of her life, Jay Newman, on August 11, 1973, at the Lewerke Home in Rockwell. To this marriage three children were born, Jayson, Jaymie, and Jayna. For several years, Ruth stayed home to raise her children. Later she found an opportunity to work at Fieldstone and then Wood Harbor, where she had many roles within the industry. She ended her career as a kitchen designer.
Ruth's greatest love was her family. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. Ruth was artistically gifted as she painted numerous works of art. She was very passionate about her faith and spending time in the Holy Land, Israel; her first trip was in 1988, and her final trip being in 2015. She felt most at peace when she participated in Midrash, studying scripture with her beloved friends.
Ruth lived her life as a servant of the Lord. She was well known for her social grace. People were drawn to her welcoming spirit, as she greatly impacted many hearts. She will be forever missed.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Jay Newman of Kensett; children, Jayson (Joleen) Newman of Eldridge, IA, Jaymie (Kevin) Walker, Centerton, AR, and Jayna (Kris) Moffit of Bella Vista, AR; grandchildren, Kendal, Kinsey and Kaycee Newman, Anyaj, Graci, and Bradyn Moffit; siblings, Diane (Bill) Kafer of Manly, Curtis (Julie) Lewerke of Clear Lake, and Dennis (Jodie) Lewerke of Mason City; her mother-in-law Ileen Newman of Mason City; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Elzo Lewerke and Yvonne Lewerke, father-in-law Donald Newman, and brother and sister-in-law Jon (Jo Ellen) Lewerke.
