Gerald Eugene Forristall

Gerald Forristall, 93, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Macedonia United Methodist Church in Macedonia, Iowa. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m., at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Carson, Iowa.

Memorials are directed to the Macedonia Historical Society or Grist Mill Fine Arts Council

Gerald Eugene Forristall was born to Lester and Leona (Coons) Forristall on December 2, 1923, in Macedonia, Iowa. He passed away on September 15, 2017, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Gerald graduated from Macedonia High School in 1941, and he never missed a Macedonia Alumni Banquet or a Macedonia High School class reunion for 74 years.

Gerald married Geraldine Hopp on February 2, 1948. Gerald and Gerry enjoyed 58 years of marriage before her death in 2006.

Gerald earned many awards during his farming career of 40 years. He passed on his love of the land to his children, farming with his son Greg beginning in 1975 and his son Gary beginning in 1983.

Gerald was a 4-H Leader for the Silver Keg Feeders, and he was also a member of the Macedonia Community School Board. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, and the Shriners. Gerald was also president and voting delegate for the West Pottawattamie Farm Bureau and was a member of the Soybean Promotion Board. In addition, he served on the Pottawattamie County Condemnation Jury Panel and the Pottawattamie County Board of Adjustment. Gerald was an active member of the Macedonia United Methodist Church, singing in the choir for 65 years.

Gerald was a charter member of Grist Mill, and he participated in many of their productions and events throughout the years. He was a long-time volunteer at both Jennie Edmundson Hospital and the Union Pacific Railroad Museum in Council Bluffs. When Gerald retired from farming, he moved with his wife Gerry to Treynor, Iowa, where he was a member of the Treynor City Council for 12 years. Gerald was also a charter member of the Treynor Optimist Club. In their retirement, Gerald and Gerry traveled extensively with the Friendship Force, a cultural exchange group that promotes peace and friendship in the world. Gerald also enjoyed working part-time at Bluffs Run for 25 years. In 2010 Gerald was honored as the "Iowan Of The Day" at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines. Gerald moved to The Heritage at Fox Run in 2011, where he enjoyed participating in numerous field trips and activities.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gerry, his son, Iowa House Representative Greg Forristall, his infant daughter Gloria, and his brothers Ivan, Paul, and Laverne. He is survived by his children Gary Forristall (Diane), Gayle Forristall (Marga), and Gerianne Forristall Darnell (George); daughter-in-law Carol Forristall; grandchildren Hillary Forristall Hughes (John), Kevin Forristall (Vanessa), Philip Forristall, Stephanie Forristall, and Thomas Forristall; great-grandchildren Luke Forristall, Katherine Hughes, Lily Forristall, David Hughes, and Jude Forristall; great-nephew James Hogsett Jr., niece Kathy Novak (Tom), niece Joanne Forristall, and many other nieces, nephews, and friends.
