Eddie & Kathleen Sorenson

Eddie Sorenson, a longtime resident of Shenandoah, passed away at the age of 95 in Austin, Texas on August 20, 2017. Ed was born in Rockham, South Dakota on November 3, 1921. He was the seventh son in a family of 8 sons and 1 daughter. In 1942 he married Kathleen Forney of Shenandoah, Iowa. Ed and Kathleen lived in Shenandoah for nearly 40 years and raised 3 children, David Sorenson of McHenry Illinois, Rebecca White of Austin, Texas, and Dan Sorenson of Damascus, Oregon. In 1987 they retired to Mesa, Arizona. In 2006 Ed and Kathleen relocated to Austin, Texas to be near their daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ed proudly served in the U.S. Army during WW2 from 1942 to 1946. He operated a grocery store in his younger days then became an agency manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He was member of the AMVETS, Lions Club, Shenandoah Country Club and the American legion.

Kathleen preceded him in death in 2010, after 68 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Kathleen also had a successful business career as well. She worked as an executive secretary and was president of the local chapter of the American Business Women's Association.

Their survivors include 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. Ed has one surviving brother, Delmer of Rapid City, SD. Kathleen has 2 surviving sisters, Onalee Czapla of Shenandoah and Winifred Archer of Coeur d'Alene, ID.

Celebration of life graveside service will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, where their remains will be buried together. Military rites provided by the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88 Color Guard.
