Peggy L. Van

Peggy Lou Van Buskirk, age 80, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Peggy was born August 16, 1936 in Pilot Grove Township of Montgomery County, Iowa the daughter of Clarence and Leona (Haley) Thompson. She graduated from Elliott High School in 1954 and attended business school in Omaha, Nebraska. Peggy started working for Loomis Abstract Company in Red Oak and was united in marriage to Max Van Buskirk on February 19, 1955 in Elliott, Iowa. They moved to the family farm where they raised their family. Over the years, Peggy worked for JC Penney for 10 years, Spurgeons for 10 years, and Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for 25 years. Peggy was a member of Center Ridge Presbyterian Church and the J.U.G. Club. She enjoyed sewing and watching football especially the Kansas City Chiefs. In her younger days she was in 4-H and was a leader for many years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Max on October 17, 2016; and brother-in-law: Billy Van Buskirk. Survivors include her children: Deborah Debbie Rannals of Albuquerque, NM, Cindy (and Jerry) Dittmer of Muscatine, IA, Lori (and Mark) Van Horn of St. Louis, MO, James Jim Van Buskirk of Red Oak, IA, and Rex (and Gretchen) Van Buskirk of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren: Matt (and Cory) Rannals of Pittsburgh, PA, Katie (and Dustin) Jones of Albuquerque, NM, Alex Rannals of Albuquerque, NM, Lauren (and Danny) Emerson of Davenport, IA, Max Dittmer of Baltimore, MD, Cassy Dittmer of Venice, CA, Michael, Timothy, and Angela Van Horn of St. Louis, MO, Christina (and Brian) Courter of St. Louis, MO, and Carolina and Hannah Van Buskirk of Overland Park, KS; six great grandchildren: George Rannals, Abel and Everett Jones, Elle and Owen Emerson and Teddy Courter; sister, Betty (and Wes) McConnell of Canton, SD; brother, Richard Thompson of Red Oak, IA; sister-in-law, Joy (and Dwayne) Shearer of Red Oak, IA; brother-in-law, Lanny (and Maralee) Van Buskirk of St. Louis, MO as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Center Ridge Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. J. Keith Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Center Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Center Ridge Presbyterian Church.
