The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Herbert was born on September 17, 1935, in Chatfield, MN to Clarence and Celina (Krueger) Holets. He graduated from Chatfield High School. Herbert met Sylvia Boyum at a local dance at Pla-Mor Ballroom and they were married on November 19, 1955. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. Herbert returned home to the Rochester area. Herbert enjoyed gardening, going to casinos, watching the Price Is Right, wood cutting, and listening to polka music. He was an avid outdoors man and liked deer hunting and fishing. His famous quote was "git r done". He was well known for being the life of the party and had the gift of gab. The family will greatly miss their Friday night get togethers in the garage, where everyone was always welcome and they'd gather for happy hour by the wood stove. Herbert was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.

Herbert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sylvia; daughters, Sherri (David) Fritz and Lisa (Kevin) Acker all of Rochester; grandchildren, Amanda Acker, Nicole Fritz, Jacob Acker, Ryan (Samantha) Fritz and Jenna Acker; great-granddaughters, Jayden, Jordan and Jemma; brother, Joseph Holets of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews.

Laura Loeding Bechtold wrote on Sep 22, 2017:

"Sherri, Lisa, and Sylvia...I have fond memories of Herb and your family, and all the times we spent at your house as kids. Admired his love for the simple things in life, having fun, tinkering in his garage, and spending time with family. I know you will miss him and I am sorry for your loss. Our dad passed away in April and I envision Lyle and Herbie "up there" having a beer together and reminiscing about the trouble their daughters caused in high school. Healing wishes, Laura Loeding Bechtold"
